Created in 2013 and organized by Leiria Film Fest – Cultural Association, Leiria Film Fest is an International Short Film Festival that is showcasing its 5th Edition, to be held in March 2018, in Leiria.
1. WORKS ACCEPTED
“Leiria Film Fest” allows national and international films for competition; with a maximum running time of 15 minutes, in digital format, produced between 2016 and 2017, in the categories of: Fiction, Animation and Documentary.
Each director may compete with, no more than, 2 (two) visual works.
The Director (or film responsible) must fill in all the online entry form fields, for each and every film he wants to compete with (the form can be found in: www.leiriafilmfest.com). In this entry form it must be given the link for the full film online preview (youtube or vimeo, only), which may come with the film password – if necessary.
The film must be subtitled in English or Portuguese, whenever spoken in other language than Portuguese.
The enrollment, with all the necessary materials described above, must be received no later than the 15th, December 2017. Films received after 11h59pm (Lisbon Time) of 15th December, 2017 will be ruled out of competition.
After a successful submission the inscription cannot be canceled or withdrawn from the competition.
Short films that have competed in other editions of this festival will be excluded.
Entries that do not meet the requirements described above will, also, be excluded from the contest.
The authors will be notified of their work’s selection on February 15th, 2018. The remaining ones will receive the information that they were not selected.
After the selection, the Festival organization may use, not only one minute of the film, but also some advertising material for promotion.
The jury of this competition is composed by 7 professionals in the cinema area: Bruno Carnide; Carlos Salvador; Cátia Biscaia; João Santos; Manuel Leiria; Paulo Peralta and Rafael Almeid. (You can see more information about the judges in: www.leiriafilmfest.com)
The jury has the power to evaluate and award the awards/distinctions.
For purposes of official selection, the jury will select no more than 20 films. The numbers of this selection may vary according to participation and quality of the works, if the jury so decides.
No member of the jury can sign up for the contest.
For the deliberations of the jury there will be no appeal.
The festival features 9 awards/distinctions:
– Best Leiria Short Film (from Leiria District and the counties of Ourém, Fátima and Tomar);
– Best Portuguese Fiction Short Film;
– Best International Fiction Short Film;
– Best Portuguese Animation Short Film;
– Best International Animation Short Film;
– Best Portuguese Documentary Short Film;
– Best International Documentary Short Film;
– Audience Award.
The awards/distinctions may be cumulative. The jury reserves the right not to award any awards/distinctions, if it so decides.
6. SELECTION CRITERIA
The jury will rate the work, taking into account a scale of 0 (zero) to 10 (ten), where zero corresponds to the minimum score and ten the highest score.
Each of the following parameters should be scored:
– Technical Quality (image, sound and animation);
– Screenplay and/or storyline quality;
– Acting and/or voice-over quality;
– Directing quality.
Apart from these parameters, it may exist a space for personal comments regarding the work.
7. IMPORTANT PROVISIONS
This Festival is organized by Leiria Film Fest- Cultural Association, with the support of Leiria’s County and Região de Leiria local newspaper. It will take place in the 16th and 17th March, 2018, in Teatro Miguel Franco, Leiria, Portugal, with the screening of the selected works, noncompetitive sessions, talks and an award ceremony.
The organization assumes that the author images (intellectual creations expressed by a set of combinations of words, music, sounds, written texts and moving images, fixed in any medium) are able, from the point of view of copyright law, to be used for public viewing, either during the festival or for any promotional activity related to the event, such as diffusing throughout the Internet and other media.
By submitting the registration, the film responsible allows its public exhibition at the Festival and other exhibits related to it, if they exist.
Any civil or criminal liability relating to the content of the work is entirely attributed to the authors.
The organization of the competition reserves the right to consider and decide any matter omitted in this Regulation and, in exceptional circumstances, decide to include a movie that does not fully comply with the regulation.
