NYC Downtown Short Film Festival

NYC Downtown Short Film Festival

Type: Regular shortfilm festival
Location: New York,
Start Month: June

Description

The NYC Downtown Short Film Festival is a program of DMAC-Duo Multicultural Arts Center a (501 c3) non-profit organization located at 62 East 4th Street in New York City’s East Village. The mission of DMAC is to create, promote and celebrate multicultural arts through theater, music, dance, art and film. Our screenings take place at our historic turn of the century theater where everyone from John Philip Sousa, Emma Goldman, Andy Warhol have graced our stage. The sensa mamma scene from The Godfather 2 was shot by Francis Ford Coppola in this theater.

Submission Requirements:

The NYCDSFF accepts submission in all genres provided they adhere to our time limitations. Films cannot be longer than 30 minutes to be considered by the festival.

Submission Deadline: May

Fees:

For the past twelve years our screenings have been sold out events. In response to the number of New Yorkers who have expressed an interest in attending these screenings and the increasing number of films submitted, the NYCDSFF has changed the way we receive submissions to our festival and how we screen those films. We believe these changes better serve the needs of short film makers and audiences who want to see these new innovative, challenging and exciting films.
As films are received, they are pre-screened and those recommended by our selection committee are presented at monthly Audience Choice Screenings.
At these screenings, audience members along with our screening staff are given comment cards and asked to rate each film. The NYCDSFF will tally the results and the highest rated films will then be invited to participate in the 13th NYC Downtown Short Film Festival which will take place June 2017. So instead of having a festival once a year with 50 films, the NYDSFF gets to screen 200 films through out the year, this way many more film makers get to be screened in NYC before some of the most savvy audiences in the world.
One must never underestimate the power of screening a new film for a NYC audience.
